About Us

What is HopOn?

HopOn is a games-based cycling program that teaches school-aged kids across Canada the joy of cycling safely.

Modeled after Cycling BC’s existing iRide program, the HopOn national grassroots program aims to provide access to cycling across Canada. HopOn is overseen by Cycling Canada and delivered locally by our Provincial and Territorial partner cycling associations.

Our Values

At HopOn we believe in C.Y.C.L.E.S:

Community: We want to see people across the country working together to create a healthy and supportive sporting environment.

Youth: Focus on healthy development of children while also working to approach activities with a child-like mindset of joy and positivity.

Captivating: We want to retain participants’ attention and completely immerse them in the joys of playing outside and riding a bike.

Learning: At the end of every session, we want participants to leave having learned a new skill and to feel confident in applying that skill outside of the program.

Excellence: All instructors are expected to do their very best when running a course while participants are expected to give an honest effort.

Safety: The health and safety of participants is always a key consideration for all HopOn activities.

History

HopOn is based on Cycling BC’s existing iRide program, which has been hugely successful and has engaged thousands of kids since its creation. Together with it’s founder and lead learning facilitator, Cycling Canada has adapted it to fit a national context.

Each province has taken the framework and adapted it slightly to align with their programming and to make sure that it works effectively in different communities. While there might be minor regional differences, the HopOn community works hard to ensure that there is an overall alignment and that each and every program offered is of the highest quality.
